A retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Louisiana Army National Guard, she served 30 years as an army nurse in various positions; head nurse, chief nurse, and training officer. During Desert Storm she served as head nurse of an intensive care ward in a mobile army surgical unit set up in Iraq.

Professor McGregor has been a registered nurse for over 40 years with an emphasis in Adult Health Nursing and specialty in Oncology nursing, and Wound, Ostomy, Continence nursing (WOCN). She is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and a clinical nurse specialist. As a Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse she maintained a private practice, Enterostomal Therapy Consultants for five years. She is also a legal nurse consultant.
Her graduate studies are in adult-health nursing with a focus in oncology. As part of her graduate studies she attended Stanford University's clinical specialty program in enterostomal therapy nursing. She has worked in many areas in medical-surgical nursing and has a wide range of clinical and leadership experiences.
