University of Holy Cross

Library Collections

The book collection is comprised of both print and electronic titles. Reference, genealogy, children's literature, Louisiana titles, and circulating titles are located on the first and second floors.

The Library houses current and back issues of journal titles in paper and microfiche format. Thousands of additional titles can be accessed through the electronic databases.

Electronic Resources

Through LOUIS, LYRASIS, and independently, the Library subscribes to both general and specialized electronic databases.  Full text books, journal articles, papers, and pamphlets may be accessed through these databases. Off-campus access is available 24/7 to the UHC community. Courtesy of LOUIS and the participating libraries, our patrons also have access to the LOUISiana Digital Library, a digital collection of historical and cultural resources. Access to Bayou State Periodicals Index is courtesy of University of Louisiana - Lafayette.

Government Documents

The Blaine S. Kern Library is a selective Federal Government Document Depository providing free access to government information. Government documents in microfiche format are housed on the first floor of the library. Government documents in print format are housed on the second floor of the library.

Materials in the Audiovisual Collection may be used for classroom presentations, on the Library computers, or in the Library viewing/listening room on the second floor.

Special Collections

The Library houses the Richard R. Dixon Collection of the history of Algiers, the Tom Fox Collection of writings by the editor, and the Fr. Thomas Ellerman, S.M. Collection of street car materials. A genealogy collection of primarily Louisiana materials, compiled in part by the late Sidney Villere, is also available.
