Commencement 2018

Apply to Graduate

All graduating students must apply for graduation to receive their diplomas and become official University of Holy Cross graduates. During the application process, you will indicate whether or not you intend to participate in the Commencement ceremony.

Cap & Gown

All undergraduate and master level students who plan to participate in Commencement are required to wear the official regalia available for purchase Online. All orders placed before February 9th will be available for pick up at Grad Fair on March 14, 2018. Orders placed after this date will be shipped directly to student. Tax and Shipping fees will apply. The deadline to order is April 13, 2018.

Grad Fair

When: Wednesday, March 14, 2018
9:00 am- 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm
Where: Basil Moreau Center, 4123 Woodland Drive, New Orleans, LA

All eligible Summer 2017, Fall 2017, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018 Graduation Candidates are encouraged to attend.

  • Pick up your Commencement tickets and cap and gown
  • Receive important information from the Office of Financial Aid and the Alumni Association
  • Have your portrait taken
  • Purchase announcements, rings, and diploma frames

When: Saturday, May 12, 2018

Directions to Holy Name of Mary:
Attire: You must wear caps and gowns. Recreational attire, such as shorts or jeans worn under the gown, is prohibited. Modifications and/or decorations to either the cap or gown will not be allowed and may prevent graduates from participating in the ceremony.
Parking: There are two parking lots on the side of the Church. Street parking around the perimeter is also available.

Commencement Ceremony

Where: Mahalia Jackson Theater, 1419 Basin St, New Orleans, LA 70116

Graduation candidates must arrive by 12:30 p.m. and report to the student check-in table located on Mezzanine 2.

*All guests, including infants, must have a ticket to enter.*

Directions to Mahalia Jackson Theater:
Attire: Participants must wear caps and gowns. Recreational attire, such as shorts or jeans worn under the gown, is prohibited. Modifications and/or decorations to either the cap or gown will not be allowed and may prevent graduates from participating in the Commencement ceremony. Please consider wearing comfortable shoes as the processional route requires the use of stairs and standing for a long period of time.
Academic honors: Undergraduate students who maintain outstanding academic achievement are recognized at Commencement. Medals will be distributed to eligible students prior to Commencement. All degree requirements must be met prior to the determination of academic honors.
Tickets: Tickets will be distributed equally among all candidates at Grad Fair as seating is limited. Each candidate will receive 8 tickets. Tickets should be kept in a secure location. Please do not mail tickets to your guests. In the event they are lost, they will not be replaced. Additional tickets are not available for purchase. If you do not need all of your tickets, you can return them to the Registrar’s Office. If you would like to request additional tickets, please send your request by Friday, April 13, via email to registrar@uhcno.edu and include: Name, student ID, email address, and the number of extra tickets you are requesting, with "Extra Ticket Request" in the subject line. Please note that ticket allocation is based upon the actual number of students participating in the ceremony and capacity of the venue. Your graduation from UHC is a major milestone in your life, and we wish that we could issue an unlimited amount of tickets for your loved ones. However, we must accommodate some guests for all of our students. Requests will be considered in the order in which they are received. You will be notified if your request has been granted by Friday, April 20 and tickets will then be available for pick-up (with your student ID) in the Registrar’s Office from Monday, April 23 to Friday, April 27. Tickets must be picked up. They cannot be mailed or given to anyone else on behalf of the requester. Tickets not picked up by April 27 will be considered forfeited. The ceremony will also be viewable via live streaming webcast.
Accommodations for Participants: The University welcomes all candidates with disabilities to participate in Commencement activities. If you require accommodations, please notify the Registrar’s Office, in advance, at registrar@uhcno.edu.
Accommodations for Guests: Designated accessible seating intended for guests using wheelchairs and/or persons with mobility, visual, or hearing impairments is available. Please contact the Registrar’s Office, in advance, at registrar@uhcno.edu to request this seating. One (1) companion may accompany each guest with a disability in these designated sections.
Parking: Paid parking is available onsite. Guests with mobility impairments may be dropped off at the lobby entrance.
