Building Evacuation Policy
Building evacuation may be necessary in the event of an emergency wherein it would benefit the campus community to not be in the building or on the grounds of the University of Holy Cross. The decision to evacuate the building will be made by the Director of Security and the President. In instances where the President is not available the Provost and/or the Vice President for Finance & Operations will decide in collaboration with the Director of Security. In instances where the above named individuals are not available, the ranking Vice President decision will be followed.
When a decision to evacuate the building has been made, all available University personnel will be assigned a portion of the building to evacuate. This person is to go to their location and advise all personnel and students that they are to leave the building and/or the University grounds. In the event of an evacuation no member of the University community should use the elevators and all members should take all personal belongings with them.
All members of the University community will be expected to follow the instructions of the personnel member directing the area. Failure to comply with these instructions will result in disciplinary action.
Members of the University community may be asked to assist a student with a physical disability. The person should first secure their personal belongings and self and then assist in evacuating the disabled individual.
In instances where the building and not the grounds are evacuated, individuals should remain 500 feet from the building.
No one should re-enter the building without the expressed consent of their immediate supervisor whom should coordinate re-entry with the Director of Security.
