The University of Holy Cross is monitoring Hurricane Ida

Thursday, September 9, 2021

Dear University of Holy Cross family,

We continue to pray that you and your loved ones are safe from Hurricane Ida. We also pray for everyone impacted by the storm.

Before, during, and following the landfall of Hurricane Ida, there have been many shining light examples of the UHC family spirit. Students, faculty, staff, alumnae and alumni, Marianites, and friends of the University have extended love, compassion, support, and guidance to each another in the University family as well as to the larger community.

Staff and faculty worked throughout Hurricane Ida to ensure the continuity of University operations and the engagement of our students. Many thanks to all our staff and faculty. YOU are the hearts and minds of Holy Cross shining brighter than ever!

As recovery from the hurricane continues, work is well underway for classes to resume. Repairs and cleanup continue this week to ready the University campus for reopening. The maintenance, facilities, IT, and campus police staff are doing great work to ready the campus. When you see them soon on campus, please thank them.

As we proceed, please note the following:

  • The campus and administrative offices will reopen with regularly scheduled hours on Monday, September 13
  • Student residents may return to the Residence Hall starting Monday, September 13
  • Saturday classes will resume September 18
  • Weekday classes will resume Monday, September 20
  • COVID-19 pandemic safety protocols remain in effect.

Please continue to monitor the University Communications email, the uhcno.edu website, and official UHC social media for regular updates.

May God’s blessings continue to be with each of you, your loved ones, and our entire UHC family.

Dear UHC Community,

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by Hurricane Ida. We know that many students, staff, and faculty have evacuated and that many of those who are home in the Greater New Orleans area are without power. We understand that this has been devastating for some and extremely challenging for everyone. We are looking forward to the day when our UHC Family can be together again.

The UHC campus weathered the storm well, and we believe that we will be able to hold in-person classes on campus. To alleviate some stress for our students, all assignment due dates will be adjusted. Saturday classes will resume on September 18, 2021. Weekday classes will resume on September 20, 2021.

HURRICANE IDA has devastated the Gulf Coast and Greater New Orleans was among the hardest hit. Most of our students live in the Greater New Orleans area. In the wake of this crisis, UHC has reactivated the Student Emergency Fund to support students who now find themselves facing financial struggles that were unforeseen.

We desperately need your help.

By making a contribution to the UHC Student Emergency Fund, you can make a difference in the lives of our students so that they will be able to continue their education at the University of Holy Cross.
