Student Life Collage

“2012 Walk for the Hungry”

sponsored by Bread for the World – New Orleans

Sat, March 3rd@ 8AM

Location: St. Anthony of Padua Church

Volunteers will join in the fight against hunger and poverty by participating in a 4-mile Walk, to raise awareness of the cause. Fee is $5, which covers the cost of your T-Shirt. The 4-mile Walk begins at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church yard, 4640 Canal St. and proceeds up Canal St. to Claiborne Ave. The Walk turns on Claiborne Ave. and continues down Canal St. returning to St.

Anthony of Padua Church yard.

 “Cultural Appreciation Day”

Wed, March 7th @ Noon – 1:30PM

Location: UHC Basil Moreau Center

Diversity education event, aimed at promoting the appreciation of diversity. Volunteers will prepare an educational booth showcasing unique facts about their ethnic culture. Most booths usually include special dishes/food, music, and other traditional items special to that culture. Many volunteers also dress in traditional attire and perform cultural dances.

 “OLHCC Week of Service”

Mon, March 19th – Fri, March 23rd

Location: Various locations around campus

This year’s ‘Week of Service’ focuses on environmental education.  Be on the lookout for postings around campus displaying facts about our earth, and ways you can help take care of it. Additionally, we will place recycling bins in various locations around campus. Bring your paper, plastics, and aluminum (even from home), and help preserve our God-given home.


“SGA Easter Egg Hunt”

Sat, March 31st

Time: TBA

Location: OLHCC

Annual SGA community/children’s service event. Provides an opportunity for local children to play games, bond with family – and, of course, hunt for eggs! Plus, the Easter Bunny himself will be available for pictures. Volunteers will sponsor games, supervise bouncers, help with set-up and clean-up, etc.

“2012 Relay for Life”

Sat, April 21st @ Noon – Midnight

Location: Mel Ott Park

Join us in the fight against cancer. OLHCC is teaming up with the American Cancer Society in this year’s Relay for Life! Our group is revved up to make a difference. The event is scheduled Saturday, April 16th, from 3 am to 3 pm. Volunteer for a two hour shift. We can also use help with fundraising.
