Christine Hypolite

Dr. Christine Collins Hypolite is a Professor of Education at the University of Holy Cross and the Coordinator and Advisor for the Certification-Only Program. She also serves as the faculty advisor for the University of Holy Cross chapter of the Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (APEL). A native of New Orleans, Dr. Hypolite attended All Saints School in Algiers (New Orleans) and graduated from Archbishop Blenk High School in Gretna, LA. She attended Nicholls State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Elementary Education. Dr. Hypolite continued her education at Nicholls State, receiving a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She later earned thirty-plus credit hours in Administration and Supervision at Nicholls State University. Dr. Hypolite earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in science education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Hypolite has been an educator for over four decades, beginning as a junior high school science teacher in Thibodaux, Louisiana. After 15 years at the junior high school level, she transitioned to the Department of Education at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. At Nicholls State, Dr. Hypolite served as an Assistant Professor and later as an Associate Professor and head of the Department of Education. In addition, she directed the Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant at Nicholls State for over ten years and taught mathematics and science seminars. While at Nicholls State University Dr. Hypolite was named Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member. She has served on several state and national mathematics and science education committees during her teaching career. Dr. Hypolite has presented at regional, state, and national conferences on classroom management, literacy, mathematics, and science education topics. In addition, she has been a consultant to local school districts, particularly in best teaching practices. She has also served her community by setting up a mathematics and science camp for local children and tutoring students in mathematics In her spare time, Dr. Hypolite enjoys listening to the classics, reading, and traveling with her husband, Shelby.
