Controller

University of Holy Cross is looking for a Controller. The candidate should possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of Higher Education, experience in accounting, and a commitment to the mission/values of University of Holy Cross. 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 5+ years experience in higher education
  • Minimum two years Controller experience 

Basic Functions

The Controller oversees and coordinates the accounting operations of the University. This includes preparation of the financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and internal controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the College’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with federal, state, and generally accepted accounting principles.  The Controller reviews all accounting functions and transactions, and performs month/year-end close, investment reconciliations, and budget preparation. 

Position Description

Supervise accounting, human resources, and payroll personnel and transactions by reviewing and reconciling:

  • Bi-weekly payroll data
  • Monthly account reconciliations
  • Chart of accounts
  • Journal entries
  • Cash reconciliations
  • Student loans transactions
  • Federal programs (Pell, SEOG, grants, etc)
  • Banking activity
  • Due to/Due from all funds
  • Net assets released from restrictions
  • Re-classifications and transfers of restricted assets
  • Endowments
  • Gift and grant activity
  • Fixed asset ledger
  • Ensure integrity of data and financial reporting by:
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations
  • Random audit of work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized
  • Oversee the reporting and integrity of accounting for investments, gifts and grants
  • Assures compliance with annual tax and reporting filings for the required deadlines, including Form 990, EZ Audit, and other related filings
  • Maintaining policies and procedures related to all accounting and operational functions to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, including internal controls
  • Reviews and assists in the monthly and annual/year-end financial closing schedule.
  • Coordination of annual financial statements audit; working with the College and external auditors in meeting desired deadlines, commitments, including preparing requested schedules, disclosures, reporting and preparing year-end financial statements
  • Assist with annual budget
  • Review IPEDS data prior to submission.
  • Oversee reconciliation and reporting of unclaimed property.
  • Review revenue, accounts receivable, and accounts payable sub-ledgers; reconciling sub-ledgers and systems (Paychex and Power Campus) to the General Ledger.
  • Prepare analytical reports for various finance and accounting projects as requested.
  • Oversee the Investment Funds monthly reconciliations, journal entry preparations, reporting to donors, and year-end financial statements.
  • Other projects as requested.

Chair of Nursing

University of Holy Cross is looking for a Nursing Department Chair responsible for leading and managing its Nursing Department. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality nursing education, fostering academic excellence and innovative teaching that meets the needs for nurses in the community, and committing to education of the minds and hearts of students. The Nursing Department Chair will lead curriculum development, faculty recruitment, and student success initiatives while maintaining compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies. The candidate should possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of nursing education, experience in nursing partnerships with hospitals and healthcare organizations, and a commitment to the mission/values of University of Holy Cross. 

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a graduate degree in nursing, plus an earned doctorate
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in nursing education
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in clinical practice
  • An unencumbered Louisiana Nursing license

Reports to: Dean or Provost
Supervises: Departmental faculty, coordinator(s), student workers, administrative assistant, as appropriate

Administrative

  1. Promote a sense of intellectual community, shared vision, and adherence to the University’s mission and core values.
  2. Recruit, select, and recommend faculty to fill vacancies of approved positions.
  3. Evaluate and recommend reappointment of full and part-time faculty.
  4. Resolve faculty and student complaints within the Department. Maintain documentation of conflicts and Refer unresolved complaints to the appropriate Dean or Provost.
  5. Provide orientation and mentoring for new faculty members.
  6. Ensure compliance of Departmental faculty with directives, policies, and procedures mandated by Academic Affairs and/or the University.
  7. Determine workload for the Departmental faculty.
  8. Monitor academic advising of students in the department, as appropriate.
  9. Coordinate scheduling of courses and work with Offices of the Registrar and Academic Affairs each semester.
  10. Review and revise Departmental information in the University Catalog.
  11. Provide information needed for issuance of contracts each semester.
  12. Confirm completion of graduation requirements for students in coordination with academic advisors and the Registrar.
  13. Assist in preparation, administration and evaluation of the Department’s budget.
  14. Serve as the primary contact for the Department with other administrative units of the University; assist in general University activities as needed.
  15. Update Departmental information on the University’s Web site and in the Catalog.
  16. Serve as a member of the Academic Council and other University committees as designated.
  17. Conduct monthly Department meetings; assure minutes that include an attendance roster are taken and maintained.
  18. Assure both interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration and communication.

Accreditation, Planning, Assessment

  1. Oversee preparation of degree program institutional effectiveness plans, assuring faculty collaboration in the plan.
  2. Assure SACS-COC requirements are maintained and kept up to date.
  3. Assure accreditation standards and reports are maintained and kept up to date.
  4. Assure LSBN regulations are maintained and kept up to date.
  5. Assure all annual reports are completed (ACEN, AACN, NLN, LSBN).
  6. Responsible for first time NCLEX pass rates and graduation rates.
  7. Serve as liaison with clinical agencies.
  8. Monitor and promote the progress of the University Strategic Plan as it pertains to the department.

Curriculum, Recruitment, Retention

  1. Develop and implement plans for student recruitment, enrollment and retention.
  2. Develop and implement a plan for alumni involvement with University activities.
  3. Coordinate the planning and development of curricula, policies and procedures to meet the current and long-range needs of students in accordance with the Strategic Plan.
  4. Implement academic policies.
  5. Encourage and facilitate faculty development and promotion in rank.
  6. Facilitate curricular discussion among department members.
  7. Collaborate with other Department Chairs on interdepartmental activities, curriculum, etc.

Administrative Assistant to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Reports to: Dean of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Basic functions: Provide assistance to the Dean, Chairs, Coordinators, Faculty and Students of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Major Duties

1. Foster the Mission and Core Values of the University.

2. Conduct oneself in a professional and respectful manner.

3. Maintain punctual and regular attendance.

4. Serve as the liaison between the Dean and faculty of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and students, staff, and other faculty.

  • Answer emails and phone calls, connecting stakeholders with the services they need and following up to make sure their needs were met.
  • Greet visitors to the University and help them find needed services, then follow up to make sure their needs were met.

5. Efficiently perform general office duties including, but not limited to

  • Proficiently use Microsoft Word & Excel, Adobe Acrobat, the University’s learning management system (Canvas), PowerCampus, campus e-mail, the Internet, and office equipment; learn additional skills as needed for the administration of the College.
  • Perform data entry and maintain records with confidentiality and efficiency.
  • Maintain full-time and adjunct faculty data files, including all SACSCOC required documentation, faculty schedules, syllabi, contact information, waivers, course survey responses, and credentials.
  • Coordinate all PO/supply orders for assigned areas.
  • Maintain records for all College budgets to ensure accuracy with Finance Office records.
  • Prepare and maintain all Request for Payment and Purchase Requisitions forms for all faculty.
  • Submit work orders as necessary.

6. Serve as academic liaison to the University’s designated textbook vendor; manage meetings, coordinate book adoptions, and evaluate quality of vendor service; and be responsible for coordinating book orders with all University departments.

7. Update performance based on evaluation and ongoing dialog  with supervisor.

8. Prepare contracts for adjuncts and full-time faculty course overloads in the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

9. Call, email, and text new UHC applicants with incomplete files in an effort to increase enrollment for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

10. Assign advisors to newly admitted students in PowerCampus and follow up with students to be sure they are advised and ultimately registered.

Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics

The University of Holy Cross invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics. The position starts August 12, 2024, for daytime in-person and/or online classes. Review of applications is ongoing.

Position Description

Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics is a part-time faculty position. The instructor is contracted per course on a semester-by-semester terms of employment.

Responsibilities

Planning and delivering instruction, testing, and reporting in the assigned Mathematics course(s) in accordance with course description, syllabus, learning outcomes, and University policies. The instructor must also be available for student conferences to review individual student progress. Additional responsibilities include maintaining student attendance records and adhering to academic calendar deadlines. The Adjunct Instructor must demonstrate the ability to effectively educate students and to exemplify the mission of the University to educate the minds and hearts of its students.

Qualifications

This position requires a master’s degree or higher in Mathematics or in a closely related field with at least 18 documented graduate hours in Mathematics coursework. At least one year of experience as an instructor (full-time or adjunct) is preferred, as is experience with online instruction and learning management systems. The instructor must possess exemplary interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with a wide range of students, and skills in establishing and managing course content and academic deadlines.
