Position Summary
The University of Holy Cross is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Worker to join the Facilities & Operations team. This full-time position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving campus facilities, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting abilities, experience performing a variety of maintenance tasks, and a commitment to workplace safety and customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform general maintenance and repair work on campus buildings and facilities.
  • Complete painting, carpentry, plumbing, and basic construction projects.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, fixtures, walls, doors, and other facility components.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies for campus events and operational needs.
  • Perform routine inspections of campus buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Maintain campus grounds and assist with outdoor maintenance projects.
  • Remove trash and debris from designated areas as needed.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with University policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Follow Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Two to five years of facilities maintenance, building maintenance, construction, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance-related issues independently.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, painting, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, safety procedures, and operational instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb, and work in confined or hard-to-reach areas.
  • Work in various environments, including offices, classrooms, outdoor settings, and moderate-noise workspaces.
  • Occasionally work around hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste.
  • May be exposed to electrical systems ranging from low voltage up to 480V.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Working Conditions
This position requires adherence to all Environmental Health and Safety procedures and University safety standards. Employees are expected to exercise sound judgment, work safely, and promptly report safety concerns or incidents.

Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
