Dear UHC Family & Friends,

I hope this message finds you well and thriving as we progress through another promising semester here at the University of Holy Cross. It brings me great joy to share with you some exciting updates and upcoming events that are contributing to the vibrant spirit of our UHC community.

First and foremost, I am pleased to report that the Spring semester is off to a great start. Our students continue to demonstrate exceptional dedication to their studies, and our faculty and staff are working tirelessly to provide a rich and fulfilling academic experience.

As we celebrate Black History Month, Dr. Ronicka Briscoe, Chair of our Education Department, and Ms. Diana Schaubhut, Director of Library Services, have partnered with The Historic New Orleans Collection's "The Trail They Blazed" exhibit. The exhibit is being held on our campus, and it is free and open to the public. The Trail They Blazed features over forty quotes and sound bites from participants in the local Civil Rights Movement, allowing visitors to hear and read these stories straight from the people who lived them. These accounts are illustrated with photographs and images documenting the history of the movement. The exhibition highlights stories of boycotts, public school desegregation, the Congress of Racial Equality, the 1963 March on City Hall, the many people who supported the movement, voter registration and education efforts, and activism in the Desire neighborhood. In addition to the exhibit there are tons of educational resources that can be used. Resources can be found online at:

Additionally, as part of our commitment to fostering academic and personal growth, I am delighted to announce the Scholarship Seminar and Resume Writing Workshop scheduled for March 2nd. This free event is a valuable opportunity for high school students to gain insights into scholarship opportunities and enhance their resume-writing skills, preparing them for future academic and professional success. I encourage you to join us, where we celebrate the unique flavors and traditions that make our university community so special. All proceeds go toward student support! Mark your calendars for April 10th, as we will be hosting the Spes Unica Award Dinner at the Higgins Hotel. This prestigious event will honor and celebrate the remarkable achievements of Mayra Pineda, President & CEO at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana. Ms. Pineda's dedication to community service and leadership exemplifies the values we hold dear at the University of Holy Cross. I invite you to join us in recognizing her outstanding contributions during this memorable evening. I look forward to seeing you at these events and witnessing the continued success and growth of our university community. Thank you for your ongoing support and let us continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.

Spes Unica,

We are so happy that New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy came to visit UHC’s campus to see our new exhibit in the Blaine S. Kern Library in collaboration with The Historic New Orleans Collection.

The University of Holy Cross presented the first of "Celebrate Black History," a thought-provoking series of panel discussions intricately aligned with "The Trail They Blazed," an esteemed exhibit currently hosted at the university in collaboration with The Historic New Orleans Collection.

During the first session, Monica Pierre, Emmy Award-Winning journalist, facilitated a discussion titled "How to be Gatekeepers and Guardians of Our Own Narratives: A Panel Discussion with New Orleans Documentary Producers." The conversation delved into how local documentary producers utilize their craft as a form of resistance, shaping and preserving narratives that challenge norms and empower their communities.

Many thanks to UHC Education Department Chair, Dr. Ronicka Briscoe, for the vision and implementation to make this series happen!

Essay question: Fr. Basile Moreau’s vision in his treatise Christian Education emphasized nurturing the hearts of young individuals and fostering a positive connection with their faith. How did your experience with the Family of Holy Cross (Priests, Brothers, Marianites of Holy Cross) form your heart, develop your faith, and transform your life to make you the person you are today?

As a component of the commemorative activities honoring the 175th Anniversary of the presence of the Holy Cross Family – Brothers, Priests, Marianite Sisters – in Louisiana, you are invited to share your reflections on the impact that Holy Cross has had on your life. We will select 175 essays for publication that most meaningfully convey the ways in which the teachings and principles of the Holy Cross Priests, Brothers and/or Marianite Sisters have played a transformative role in your life. Essays should be limited to 500 words and should be sent to Approvals to publish will be requested from authors whose essays are selected.
