University of Holy Cross Teacher Education Program Earns Highest Quality Rating from
Louisiana Department of Education
UHC is the only program in the New Orleans area to earn this distinction
The University of Holy Cross (UHC) is proud to announce that its undergraduate teacher
education program has achieved the highest possible score from the Louisiana Department
of Education’s Teacher Preparation Quality Rating. The program received a “Highly
Effective” rating, or a score of 4, an honor shared by only six programs statewide.
UHC’s program is one of 44 programs statewide and is the only teacher preparation
program in the Greater New Orleans area to earn the Highly Effective distinction.
UHC’s Teacher Preparation Quality Rating Score reflects the excellence of its curriculum,
faculty, and hands-on learning experiences. This recognition places UHC’s program
in an elite group within the state, where the majority of highly rated programs are
alternative certification pathways designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s
degree.
“This rating is one of several recent accolades recognizing the quality and impact
of UHC’s academic programs,” said UHC President Stanton F. McNeely. “Our high-performance
scores are a testament to the exceptional quality of our instructors and the hands-on,
supportive learning environment we provide for students here at UHC. We are dedicated
to developing educators who are well-prepared to lead and inspire in the classroom.”
The University of Holy Cross Teacher Education program offers a comprehensive, hands-on
approach to preparing future educators, blending academic coursework with extensive
field experience in local classrooms. Designed to meet the needs of diverse learners,
the program emphasizes effective teaching practices, classroom management, and community
engagement. UHC education graduates are well-equipped to make an impact in today’s
schools and consistently demonstrate high achievement and readiness to lead in their
teaching careers.
In addition to the program’s rating, UHC’s education students consistently achieve
strong academic outcomes and are highly sought after by school districts. UHC’s emphasis
on fieldwork, teaching with compassion and comprehensive training prepares graduates
to meet the demands of today’s classrooms and support diverse student populations.
“Our teacher education program stands out not only for the high marks it received,
but also for its strong commitment to preparing students through immersive, real-world
experience,” said Dr. Lisa Sullivan, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
“We are proud to offer a program that consistently demonstrates excellence and a commitment
to producing dedicated, effective educators for Louisiana and beyond.”
The University of Holy Cross remains committed to maintaining the highest standards
across its programs and continues to develop innovative educational pathways that
meet the needs of the community.
