About
Dr. Carolyn White is Dean of Counseling, Education, and Business, and Chair of Counseling
and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Holy Cross. She came to the University
of Holy Cross (UHC) in 1998 as an adjunct instructor in Counseling and Psychology
and was hired as a full-time assistant professor in 2002. Dr. White currently holds
the rank of Professor of Counseling. Dr. White received both her PhD in Counselor
Education and Supervision and MEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University
of New Orleans. Her dissertation research was on the benefits of group counseling
for high functioning Alzheimer’s patients. Her interests of study include gerontology,
sexual trauma, supervision, and qualitative research. Since coming to UHC, she has
taught courses in undergraduate counseling and psychology, and graduate courses in
the master’s and doctoral programs in counseling. She also chairs and serves on dissertation
committees of doctoral students in counseling.
Dr. White is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist (LMFT), LPC Board approved Supervisor in Louisiana, and a National Certified
Counseling (NCC). She is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Louisiana
Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, the
Southern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, the Louisiana Association
of Counselor Education and Supervision, and the National Honor Society of Chi Sigma
Iota (Alpha Zeta Chapter at UHC). Dr. White has presented at both local and national
counseling conferences on various topics including qualitative research, group counseling,
gerontological counseling, and sexual trauma.

About
Theodore P. Remley, Jr. is a professor of counseling at the University of Holy Cross
in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Remley holds a PhD in Counselor Education from the
University of Florida and a law degree (JD) from Catholic University in Washington,
DC. He is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a member of the Chi Sigma Iota
national scholarship honorary in counseling. He is licensed as a Professional Counselor
(LPC) in Louisiana and is licensed to practice law in Virginia and Florida. Dr. Remley
is the author and co-author of a number of articles, books, and book chapters related
to legal and ethical issues in counseling. For more than 20 years, he directed very
popular counselor institutes in Italy and Ireland, and in cooperation with the National
Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), in Bhutan, France, Argentina, and Africa (Malawi).
Since 2015, Dr. Remley has directed the annual national refereed Law and Ethics in
Counseling Conference held each year in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Remley has been
a school counselor and a college counselor and practiced law for seven years. In the
past, Dr. Remley has held full-time counseling faculty positions at George Mason University
in Fairfax, Virginia; Mississippi State University; the University of New Orleans;
and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Remley is a former Executive
Director of the American Counseling Association. He was the founding president of
the American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB). He is a fellow in the
American Counseling Association. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016
from the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and the Past President’s
Lifetime Membership Award in 2017 from the American Association of State Counseling
Boards (AASCB).

Dr. Matt Morris received a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech (2006),
and currently is a Professor of Counseling at the University of Holy Cross (UHC) in
New Orleans since 2007. Dr. Morris is licensed as both a Professional Counselor (LPC-S)
and Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT-S) in Louisiana, and frequently presents at
state, national, and international conferences on topics related to couple & family
counseling and building a private practice. His practice can be found at www.drmattmorris.com,
where he specializes in couples/relationship therapy, therapies to reduce conflict
and improve connection, and therapies to improve sexuality and intimacy. When not
working, Dr. Morris can be found with family and friends, at one of New Orleans’ many
festivals enjoying life, music, and great food!

Dr. Morris' research interests expand his systemic orientation beyond the therapy
interaction and into larger system functioning. His doctoral dissertation focused
on systemic processes of international conflict, specifically cybernetic processes
of the Iraq War.

About
Thomas A. Fonseca holds a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Mississippi
State University. He is the School Counseling Coordinator within the Department of
Counseling and Behavioral Sciences and has more than 8 years of school counseling
experience (serving 1 year in an Alternative School in St. Charles Parish) working
with adolescent boys. He created the first webinar on the assessment, diagnosis, and
treatment of trauma- and stressor-related disorders hosted by the Louisiana Counseling
Association. Dr. Fonseca served as past president of the Louisiana Association for
Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (LASERVIC), a division of LCA.
Dr. Fonseca serves as president of the Louisiana Counseling Association. He is the
recipient of the 2010 Adjunct Faculty of the Year awarded by the University of Holy
Cross.
He has presented several chapters of the DSM-5 at Family Services of Greater New Orleans,
Jewish Family Services (Metairie), and Catholic Counseling Services (New Orleans).
He has presented at the Louisiana Counseling Association’s (LCA) Annual Conference
for the past ten years, the Law and Ethics National Conference, and the Mississippi
Counseling Association’s (MCA) Annual Conference on crisis response planning. His
presentation on crisis response planning won the 2015 LCA Best of Show award for its
excellence in demonstrating how professional school counselors can advocate for the
profession by enhancing their contributions to campus crisis planning teams.
Dr. Fonseca has been the guest speaker for three district-level school board in-services
in which he focused on using best practices in campus planning for violent intruders.
He has received training from multiple institutes and organizations, including NOVA
(National Organization for Victim Assistance), ALICE Training Institute (Alert, Lockdown,
Inform, Counter, Evacuate - the first active shooter training to be endorsed by the
US Department of Education, Homeland Security, and FEMA), Western Region Homeland
Security Advisory Council (WRHSAC) Symposium on Active Shooter Awareness, Louisiana
State University (LSU) School Shooter Awareness Summit, and Red Cross Disaster Mental
Health Training. In addition, he has responded to two active shooter events.
His licenses/certifications include: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), LPC Board-Approved
Supervisor (LPC-S), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), National Certified
Counselor (NCC), and National Certified School Counselor (NCSC).

About
Dottie M Martin is a Professor of Counseling at the University of Holy Cross in New
Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Martin holds a PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision from
the University of New Orleans and an MA in Marriage and Family Counseling. She is
a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor (LPC-S), a Nationally Certified Counselor
(NCC), Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC) and has specialized training in
Southern Law Enforcement Foundation Basic CISM, EMDR and is TeleMental Health Certified
in LA. Her dissertation research was on the competency of school counselors working
from a family systems perspective. Her interests of study include supervision, trauma,
crisis, and family counseling. She is a published scholar and a frequent presenter
at international, national, and local professional conferences. She chairs and serves
on dissertation committees of doctoral students in counseling. Dr. Martin has served
as school counseling program coordinator, practicum and internship coordinator for
both masters and doctoral programs and is the moderator of the Psychology club. She
is an active member of the Louisiana Counseling Association and currently serves as
the President of the Louisiana Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Martin has diverse experiences as a counselor in schools,
community agencies, behavioral health hospitals and in private practice. For over
a decade, Dr. Martin has maintained a private practice where she has experience working
with couples and families, survivors of sexual/physical abuse, first responders, clients
with symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal issues. Outside of work,
Dr. Martin loves spending time with her family and friends, traveling, attending music
festivals, or just relaxing on a beach.

Dr. Thomas (Pat) has been at the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans since 2015.
She taught high school science for six years before beginning her counseling career.
She received her MA in Counseling from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and
her PhD in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans. She worked as
a counselor in the New Orleans Public School System for 25 years and taught at Southeastern
La. U. for eight years before joining the UHC faculty. Other professional counseling
positions have included working at an agency that serves families in danger of becoming
homeless and teaching as an Adjunct Professor at several local universities. After
Hurricane Katrina, she worked as part of a team providing mental health services to
faculties, students and parents in the New Orleans area. Pat’s professional interests
include counseling in schools, multiculturalism, wellness, self-care and holistic
approaches to counseling. Pat is a past president of the Louisiana School Counselors
Association, Louisiana Counselors for Social Justice and the Louisiana Counseling
Association. She has a contribution in the book “Counselor Self-Care” by Jerry Corey,
et al. Pat is a regular faculty member for the International Institutes to Italy
and Ireland that UHC sponsors each year.

About
Dr. Michaela Hartline is an Associate Professor of Counseling in the Department of
Counseling and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans,
Louisiana. Dr. Hartline holds a PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision. She is a
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), LPC Board approved Supervisor, a National Certified
Counseling (NCC) and is TeleMental Health Certified in Louisiana. In Fall 2019, Dr.
Hartline became an Assistant Professor of Counseling at the University of Holy Cross,
after severing as an adjunct instructor for three years. Dr. Hartline frequently presents
in local and national conference, on topics related to: Supervision, Counselor Education,
Gatekeeping, Legal and Ethical Issues dealing with Minors. In addition to teaching,
Dr. Hartline sees clients at a private practice, prominently working with adolescents
and couples. Dr. Hartline currently serves as Faculty Moderator of the Alpha Zeta
Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, national scholarship honorary in counseling and Omicron
Delta Kappa, a 100-year old national leadership honor society. Dr. Hartline serves
as the Co-Chair for the Humans Subject Protection Review Committee at the University
of Holy Cross. Dr. Hartline chairs and serves on dissertation committees in the doctoral
program. Dr. Hartline currently serves as Faculty Assembly Secretary. When not working,
Dr. Hartline enjoys spending time with her friends and family exploring the city and
listening to local music!

About
Dr. Ryan White is the Director of the Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center
at the University of Holy Cross, where he also holds faculty status in the Department
of Counseling and Behavioral Sciences. He supervises counseling students during their
practicum and internship experience and primarily teaches courses in theories, career
counseling, appraisal, research, and diagnosis.
Dr. White received his PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Holy Cross. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Supervisor in the state of Louisiana, a National Certified Counselor, and holds membership in the American Counseling Association, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Chi Sigma Iota national honor society for professional counselors and counselor educators. His areas of research interest include counselor education, career indecisiveness, counseling adolescent clients, and suicide.

Dr. Mary “Cathy” Waguespack received her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision
from the University of Holy Cross. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC),
LPC Board-approved Supervisor, and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and is TeleMental
Health Certified in Louisiana. In the Summer of 2017, Dr. Waguespack became an Assistant
