The Student Health Services Office provides students with a variety of health-related and wellness services. The Office of Student Health Services operates under two principles: The first principle is to provide basic preventative care to the Holy Cross community. This is conducted on an annual basis during the UHC Health and Wellness Fair. The second principle is to provide students with health education information in a variety of forms, such as pamphlets, handouts, bulletin board projects and programs.

Louisiana State Immunization Requirements for Students of Higher Learning

In accordance with Louisiana Revised Statute 17:170, institutions of higher learning must require for student enrollment proof of certain immunizations given as recommended by the Louisiana Immunization Schedule and maintain a record of these immunizations for each student. These requirements are important tools for maintaining high vaccination coverage, which lowers the rates of vaccine-preventable diseases in individuals and helps prevent avoidable outbreaks in communities with frequent exposure opportunities, such as schools.

Update: Please note the updated requirement for a second meningococcal vaccination as revised during the 2015 State Legislative Session. The required immunizations are listed below.

Measles: Students born after 1956 must show proof of two doses of measles vaccine.

Mumps and Rubella: All students must show proof of vaccination against mumps and rubella.

Tetanus and Diphtheria (Td) or tetanus toxoid reduced diphtheria acellular pertussis (Tdap): All students must show proof of a Td or Tdap vaccination within the previous 10 years.

Meningococcal: All students must show proof of two doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccination separated by at least 30 days.

Exemption Option for MMR or Tetanus Vaccines

Effective August 1, 2008, all students entering the college requesting an exemption for medical reasons for the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or Tetanus vaccines will be required to have a physician's signature accompany their own signature on the University of Holy Cross Immunization Certificate. If the exemption request is for personal or religious purposes, the student must sign the UHC Immunization Certificate and state the reason.

Students are strongly encouraged to receive their vaccines at one of the local health units. Please see the list below for phone numbers and locations of local health units.
