The University of Holy Cross (UHC) identifies outcomes, assesses the extent to which it achieves these outcomes, and provides evidence of improvement based on the analysis of the results in the area of educational programs. The UHC Institutional Effectiveness Guide states, “institutional effectiveness is defined as a set of ongoing and systematic institutional processes and practices that include planning, the evaluation of programs and services, the identification and measurement of outcomes across all institutional units, and the use of data and assessment results to inform decision-making” (p. 1). As depicted by the UHC Institutional Effectiveness Model, Mission-centered outcome assessment is at the heart of the institutional effectiveness processes and practices adopted by UHC. Continuous assessment and subsequent analyses of results lead to enhanced student learning, the Institution’s raison d’etre. The measures employed encompass educational programs, administrative support services, academic and student support services, and community/public service.
