Kristy Walgamotte Solis, EdD, MSN, BSN, RN
Professor of Nursing
Dr. Kristy Walgamotte Solis brings over 25 years of diverse experience in healthcare, encompassing roles as a Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Nurse Educator. With a clinical foundation in Adult Health and a specialized focus on Oncology Nursing, Dr. Solis has provided compassionate, evidence-based care to a broad and diverse patient population throughout her career.
An alumna of the University of Holy Cross, Dr. Solis earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Doctor of Education in Executive Leadership. She continues to serve the mission of her alma mater with distinction. Since joining the Nursing faculty in 2006, she has served in numerous leadership and instructional roles, including Clinical Coordinator, Nursing Lab Coordinator, Chair of Curriculum, Chair of Nursing Honors, and Advisor to the Student Nurses Association Executive Board.
As an experienced Nurse Educator, Dr. Solis has taught across all levels of the nursing curriculum, bringing expertise to subjects such as Medical-Surgical Nursing, Adult Health Management, Health Assessment, and Pathophysiology. Her scholarly interests focus on nursing education and faculty development, culminating in her dissertation, An Action Research Study of Effective Socialization of Novice Nurse Educators into Higher Education: A Comparative Investigation.
Dr. Solis is a recipient of multiple endowed professorships, including the Hotel Dieu, Industrial Metal, EENT, Booth-Bricker, and OLHCC Alumni Endowed Professorships, recognizing her sustained excellence in teaching. Her dedication to the nursing profession has been further honored by being named among the Great 100 Nurses of Louisiana, receiving the SNA Advisor of the Year Award, and being featured in Who’s Who in Academia.
Dr. Solis remains actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society, American Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, New Orleans District Nursing Association, Louisiana State Nurses Association, National Student Nurses’ Association (Sustaining Member), and the Louisiana Council of Administrators of Nursing Education.

involves the care of pediatric populations in multiple settings including intensive
care, emergency room care, acute care, community adolescent health, and intermediate
care of the newborn. She has experience in managing the medical side of adolescent
school-based health centers, mentoring novice nursing faculty, and precepting nurses,
and staff in the clinical setting.

Professional Experience
Ms. Humphrey has a total of 27 years of experience working at the patient bedside.
The specialty areas of care focus primarily of obstetrical patients for 15 years.
The patients consist of high and low risk maternity patients pre and post-delivery
along with well-baby newborn care. Eight years in hyperbaric oxygen medicine a care
area that includes many types of patients, all age ranges, mostly wound healing, carbon
monoxide poisoning, commercial and sport dive medicine for decompression sickness
even some on ventilators. She practiced in telemetry and medical-surgical acute care
practice caring for patients with cardiac related diseases, both chronic and acute,
stroke and neurological disorders, pre and post-operative procedures and monitoring
of acute symptomatic health related issues. The related health issues included most
systems in the general medical surgical specialization such as gastrointestinal disorders,
renal disease, pulmonary, genitourinary. The types of patients also include those
that have had gynecological surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, cardiac catheterization
procedures, pain management procedures, skin flap procedures. She additionally has
experience in the roles of charge nurse, preceptor, clinical manager and clinical
director.

Dr. Johnson has been a registered nurse for over 25 years working in the areas of
adult orthopedics and medical surgical nursing. Dr. Johnson has worked for both West
Jefferson Medical Center and East Jefferson General Hospital on medical surgical and
orthopedic units. She has also worked as Director of Nursing of a nursing home and
Supervisor of the Orthopedic Unit at East Jefferson General Hospital. Most recently,
Dr. Johnson was the Clinical Educator of the Acute Care Division at East Jefferson
General Hospital.

Mr. Landry has been a registered nurse for over 30 years with his clinical expertise
being in adult critical care and management/leadership. His graduate studies included
working with acutely ill and critically ill adults following the nursing education
track. While at South Alabama, he was awarded the Academic Excellence award. His experience
includes working as a staff nurse in ICU as well as management experience where he
was the director of ICU/ER/Telemetry/Med‐surg. He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International

Professional Experience
Dr. Martin has over 35 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, with more
than thirty years in nursing education. She is a Certified Patient Educator, credentialed
through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Dr. Martin's doctoral study
focused on quality improvement in health care and clinical practice specific to health
literacy and medication management.
Dr. Martin is a LANTERN-Nurse Residency Advisory Board member at University Medical Center, New Orleans. She is a professional nurse journal abstract reviewer. She has reviewed pharmacology textbooks for Elsevier.
Dr. Martin is also a psychiatric nurse generalist for suicide prevention.
Dr. Martin is an instructor for the program, Stop the Bleed by the American College
of Surgeons, through the Spirit of Charity Foundation at University Medical Center,
New Orleans.

Clinical
Dr. Prechter is a registered nurse with clinical experience in pediatrics, ambulatory
care and adult medical surgical nursing.
Educational
She joined the faculty at the University in 1982 as one of four nursing faculty who
wrote the nursing curriculum. She has held several positions to include Academic Vice
President and Provost). She retired in 2025 as Dean of the College of Nursing and
Health Sciences and Chair of the Department of Nursing.
Her master’s thesis looked at The Effects of Planned Nursing Intervention on the Anxiety Level of Siblings of Children Diagnosed with Life-threatening Diseases and her dissertation research related to the Impact of Selected Variables on the Critical Thinking Skills of Baccalaureate Nursing Students.
Military
Dr. Prechter was commissioned as an Army Nurse Corp officer in the Louisiana Army
National Guard in 1978. She retired January 2008 as a Colonel, State Chief Nurse and
Deputy Commander of Louisiana’s Medical Command. She was the first female Colonel
in the Louisiana Army National Guard and retired as the highest-ranking female in
the Louisiana Army National Guard (LAARNG).
She has received numerous army medals to include the four Army Achievement Medals, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Medal, Service in Southwest Asia Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Louisiana War Cross, four Army Commendation Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, five bronze fleur-de-lis and fifth bronze oak leaf cluster. She was awarded the Legion of Merit Award for meritorious service as the medical commander in the Louisiana Super Dome during Hurricane Katrina, June 2006. She is a charter member of Women in the Military Association.
Her military education includes certification in Combat Lifesaver Training, Water Purification, Food Sanitation, Chemical Casualty, Maintenance, Leadership /AMEDD. She received a diploma for the Army’s Medical Department Officer Advanced Course.
Dr. Prechter’ s active duty experience includes the Katrina/Rita Hurricane Task Force and Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Community
Dr. Prechter served two terms on the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (2010-2018).
She served ten years on the Board for Baptist Community Ministries (BCM). She is
a past secretary/treasurer and Chair of BCM.
She is CEO of CommCare Corporation and serves as Chair of the CommCare Compliance Committee;.
Dr. Prechter was a New Orleans CityBusiness 2017 Health Care Hero. She was nominated as one of New Orleans Citi Business 2006 Women of the Year. She has served as a Program Evaluator for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and she was commissioned as a member of the Louisiana Health Care Commission.
She has been awarded the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Foundation Endowed Professorship I and III and the Notre Dame Class of 56 Endowed Professorship II. She has been elected into Who's Who American Teachers several times and she was a Great One Hundred Nurse.
Publications
Dr. Prechter has written, reviewed and edited for numerous publishers to include Prentice-Hall,
Western Schools, and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. She coauthored a chapter in Nurses on the Front Line: When Disaster Strikes (1878-2010). Springer Publishing Company published the book. The title of the chapter was “A
Tale of Two Shelters: A Katrina Story, 2005.” She currently is a TEQ Blog reviewer
for the National League for Nursing.
